| Coming from the
Central Coastal areas of California you'll have a couple of methods
to reach us.
Those from Santa Cruz to Carmel will
get to the San Joaquin Valley via Highway 152 through Los Banos and
finally
Highway 99. Head south toward Fresno. You save an hour by cutting off
at Madera. As you near Madera, take the Cleveland Ave. exit. At the
stoplight, turn left and come back across and over Hwy 99. Then you
will cross Golden State Ave. and the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks.
The road is a little confusing at this point because it veers to the
right then again to the left. Just stay on Cleveland Ave. through Madera
approximately 1.5 miles and and it will sweep right and to a "Stop"
sign at Yosemite Ave. (Hwy 145). Turn left and stay on Hwy 145. You
will come to a stop light at Hwy 41. Do not turn, just cross Hwy 41
on to the next stop sign which will be Road 206. Turn right and after
a couple of miles you will see Friant Dam on your left and then you
will cross the San Joaquin River. The road will end at the community
of Friant. Turn left and follow Millerton Road past Lake Millerton
on
your left. Continuing on Millerton Road you will see a large golf course
on the right then the Table Mountain Casino on the left. Continue
to
the dead end at Auberry Road. On your left is Millerton store. Turn
left and continue up Auberry Road approximately nine miles to Prather.
From the stop sign in Prather, turn left and take Hwy 168 to the next
stop sign. You will turn left and head up the famous "4-lane" for
approximately eight miles. Then 168 narrows down again. You will go
by Cressman's
Store and Texaco Gas Station. This will be the cheapest place to buy
gas after you leave the valley. The elevation at Cressman's is approximately
4800'. Continue up Hwy 168 approximately six miles to Shaver Lake,
which is the focal point for The Shaver Basin.
Those
from Santa Barbara to San Simeon will
get to the San Joaquin Valley via Highways 46 and 41 off Highway 101.
Once you get on Highway
41, take it to Highway 99 north towards Fresno. Then take the Freeway
41 exit from Highway 99 towards Yosemite. Look for the Freeway 180
east
exit. Stay to the right because the Freeway 168 exit comes up very
quickly. Freeway 168 meaders through Fresno and Clovis, finally becoming
rural
Highway 168. After several miles of beautiful foothill scenery, you'll
come to Prather. Just continue until you come to a stop sign. Turn
left
and head up the famous "4-lane" for approximately eight miles. Then
168 narrows down again. You will go by Cressman's Store and Texaco
Gas
Station. This will be the cheapest place to buy gas after you leave
the valley. The elevation at Cressman's is approximately 4800'. Continue
up Hwy 168 approximately six miles to Shaver Lake,
which is the focal point for The Shaver Basin.
